When it comes to betting on sports much of the allure has to do with the thrill of the win. Many times it also has to do with the teams your betting on. It makes the game so much more interesting because it actually can make you money by watching a game. Unlike the hordes of fans that spend hours upon hours rooting for a team that gives them no monetary value. Now I’m just as big of a sports nut as the next guy but I also like to make money from the things that I do. But there are some people that fail miserably when it comes to winning their bets and I feel it boils down to 2 reasons.
The first reason many people fail miserably to win any money from there bets has to do with their emotional attachment to their betting strategy, which will inevitably lose them a lot of money. Now the pros out there can bet against their favorite team and not think twice about it, but for the average gambler their bets become way too biased towards their favorite team or against that team they hate. When it comes to betting on any sport you need to leave your fan loyalty at the door. Now if this means never maxbet on those games then that’s just what you have to do. At the least it would be a good idea to not throw as much money on that game. As far as betting against a team just because you don’t like them, this is reserved for the diehards. This emotional attachment is not as detrimental to your betting strategy but just make sure you check yourself every once and a while.
Although an emotional attachment can wipe your bankroll out there is nothing more lethal than a desperate gambler. This is the person you see 2 sheets to the wind on a Tuesday with that look of suicide in their eyes because they just lost another big game. This scenario comes into play most often when they just had a bad betting week and they decide to try and make all back on one game. That one game that they feel is a sure thing and they can’t lose. This bet more times than not will wipe you out and can really put you in a bad situation. The other type of desperation bet is when you’re gambling with money you need to pay bills instead of having money set aside strictly for your bankroll. This is the gambler that needs that big win to pay the rent or some other type of bill. Even the most experienced gambler can get irrational at this point.
The best mindset to have when gambling is a rational one. If you keep in sight that it’s a numbers game based on stats and that it’s more of a carefully planned out investment instead of a bet you’ll always come out on top. At the least you’ll always have fun doing it instead of depending on a big win.
